Mary Sharpe, principal member
Mary Sharpe is the principal member of “Sharpe Thinking”. She does research into positive psychology and theology and its application in various sectors. She contributes to new thinking on international conflict management and is a consultant to NATO and the European Science Foundation. During 2006-7 she was a visiting scholar at the Centre for Women and Leadership at Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge.
For the past seven years Mary has been a consultant, trainer and facilitator in both the public and private sectors. Her clients include: Cambridge University (the Cambridge – MIT Institute, the Staff Training and Development Department, the Department for Equality and Diversity, and the Judge Business School), the Luqman Institute for Education and Development and NATO, in addition to private companies and individuals in London, Oxford and Cambridge.
She practiced law for fifteen years in Scotland and in Brussels at the EC Commission where she developed her knowledge and experience of cross-cultural legal, political and business practice. In Brussels, she also trained in a specialist communications unit with senior operators from the BBC and the Financial Times for the then EC Commissioner for Science and Education, Edith Cresson, former Prime Minister of France. She was a speech-writer for several EC Commissioners and spoke on behalf of the EC Commission at conferences and seminars worldwide. Her interests in inter agency and inter sector cooperation, change agency, self efficacy, leadership development, executive coaching and conflict management were developed during this time.
